Paul Young B.Sc (Hons), PhD (London), FQA, FAHMS, FASM, FAVS Paul Young is Emeritus Professor of Virology at The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. He gained his PhD from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in 1986 and joined the University of Queensland in 1991. His research interests have encompassed the broad field of flavivirus research with a major focus on the dengue viruses and with contributions to the field over more than 40 years. He has 50 years of experience investigating the molecular biology, structure, function, biochemistry and immunology of viruses and their encoded proteins. His group has contributed significantly in the areas of diagnostics, vaccine and antiviral development as well as towards a greater understanding of the basis of severe viral disease. Prof Young is President-elect of the International Union of Microbiological Societies and has been the President of the Australian Society for Microbiology (2012-2014), the Australasian Virology Society (2001-2011) and the Asia-Pacific Society for Medical Virology (2012-2015).
